Horizontal Falls

Located in the Kimberley region of Australia, the Horizontal Falls is the name given to the amazing natural phenomenon that occurs there. The gorges fill and empty twice daily, along with the fluctuations of the tides.

The ‘waterfalls’ are caused by the changing tide, as water rushes past two narrow gorges to fill the reservoirs. As the tides in the region can reach 10 meters, a peak tide creates up to 4 m of difference in water level on each side of the gorges.
